Historically inspired corset
Corset in about 1730's design.
The body is made in two layers - an inner cotton twill and an outer cotton/polyester satin - sewed together to make channels for the plastic whalebone.
In the back both the bodice and shoulder straps are laced with a round cotton ribbon.
The bust is embroidered with silk flowers and golden seed beads.
All the edges are handstitched with a bias tape of the outer satin fabric.
The corset model I was inspired to replicate, next to material tests also used as sketches.
My thread choice for the boning channels is a thick navy blue polyester thread, seen on two eyelets.
I made the silk flowers myself from crepe de chine, starched with wood glue to make them hold the shape better, and a flower iron found at my school. Before starching and shaping the silk I dyed some of it in exhaust baths of either aronia berries, saffron or black beans.
